Istikhara is a special dua taught by the Prophet ﷺ through which we ask Allah for what is best. It is not only for marriage — it is for every important decision.
In Sahih Bukhari, Jabir رضي الله عنه says that the Prophet ﷺ used to teach us istikhara the same way he taught us a surah of the Quran.

"Perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you, and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you."
